Diablo 3 Farming – Going for Blue

Subtle EssenceMany people in the beta are trying to use their max level characters to farm the limited content available. Undeniably the best way to make gold or beta bucks in the beta is to sell rare and magic items or the materials you salvage from them. A month ago I would have told you that running mindless Skeleton King encounters was the way to go. However, Blizzard recently changed the system and removed the common quality (white) crafting materials, making the trash equipment drops not even worth picking up.

I wrote earlier about both Gold Find and Magic Find gear sets to increase your production but there is another way to maximize what you find, and that’s to go straight for where you know there are elite mobs. These guys are sort of like mini-bosses found in random locations in most dungeons. You may remember them from Diablo 2, their names are a blue’ish purple (I must be colorblind), they are a lot stronger and take a lot more damage before they tip over. They almost always drop a blue item for all the players in the game.

Going directly for these mobs will make your playtime more effective, hypnza on YouTube shared this video demonstrating how you can skip from Crypt to Crypt finding these special mobs to find anywhere around 60 Subtle Essence in an hour. That’s actually quiet a bit considering it’s beta and we only have a few small areas to conquer.

Important: Many of the strategies and tips I share here were originally inspired by the people at the Diablo 3 Gold Secrets Forum. If you're serious about making the big bucks in Diablo 3, or just being the best players, you need to signup ASAP.

  1. Have you tried going to all crypts and then leaving the game? Is it slower than just leaving at the first crypt?

    • It takes a long time to leave the Crypt and find another, I think it’s a lot longer than zoning out and zoning back in.
